Just For You

Struggling With Seemingly Incurable Sadness ???

If like me, you are often plagued by the above, you know it can be overwhelming.

Whilst I've not found a cure, I have found some things that have helped me on a whole, they're listed below and again, if they help, they help.

A Note Regarding Impermanence

Every aspect of our life is constantly changing around us; whether it’s our mindset, relationships, financial situation or loss of a loved one.

They all have a nature of impermanence. The changes in our life, both those within our control and out of it, will have much less of an impact on our emotional and physical well being when we recognize that these elements can change at any moment, understanding that this is just the nature of life.

A sad thought, but I think it's a true one: everyone in our life is destined to become a memory - often with people or at a time we would never expect. The only exception, is when we become a memory ourselves.

Personally, I relate impermanence to life as I would wearing seat belt, you wear it not thinking you will get into a crash, but you do so because you are aware it can happen at any moment..

Some Of The Things I Try To Remember...

  • You are more resilient than you know, despite how badly you feel or have handled a situation, you are still here and persevering and that means something.
  • Your pain is valid, unfortunately there is a lot of negativity in the world and it's strange to say that sometimes we feel guilty when expressing our sorrow, when we know the extent of other peoples suffering. However, our problems are very real to us and it's perfectly okay to be effected by whatever bothers us and to want to feel it, express it or try and fix it.
  • It's okay not to be okay and pretending to be so is exhausting, if you need to take some time out, do so.
  • We worry so much about things that have not even happened yet and in a lot of cases never do, or do not play out the way we envisioned.
  • At what point do we stop being so hard on ourselves and cease to beat ourselves up? Every person makes mistakes, what matters is what your intentions are moving forward.
  • It sounds cliche and it is not a solution in itself, but time does heal, or to say it better, the suffering you feel at the moment, is not always how it will be, I didn't believe it, but it will get better.
  • You're not weak or broken for wanting to seek help or self improvement; life is complicated and sometimes there are bumps along the way, but people are a lot more understanding than you think.

Pen To Paper

To some of us, especially in modern times, writing down our feelings, experiences or thoughts can be alien - even worrisome, as it means we may be confronting something that we would normally suppress.

However, I have found that jotting down, whether it is in the form of a written journal, a notes app on your phone, or expressing ourselves through art or poetry, it can help to elevate the burden of a busy mind. by forcing us to think on more of a single track, rather then an mess of unorganised thoughts and fears.

Hopefully you find, more often then not, once your thoughts are out there, it offers a chance of stillness and sometimes realisation, which has helped me many times in the past.

Volunteer Work

Volunteering has many benefits!

Naturally, we get so caught up in our own lives and all the pressures that come with it, that it cannot help but consume us negatively at times.

I have found that volunteering, gives us an opportunity to step back from it all.

Focusing on something other then ourselves is something we often tend to overlook and it has so many positive side effects!

A good place to look for opportunities is your local council website.

"Love is eternal the aspect may change, but not the essence. There is the same difference in a person before and after he/she is in love as there is in an unlighted lamp and one that is burning. The lamp was there and was a good lamp, but now it is shedding light too, and that is its real function
